As bulbs fade and herbaceous borders grow in leaps and bounds, it is now clear that summer is approaching. Sowing and planting out bedding can begin! It's also time to get back into the lawn mowing regime, as the lawn will be loving the warmer temperatures this month brings.
Plant out summer bedding at the end of the month. Tip - when buying plants, look for ones that are green and bushy with plenty of flower buds, rather than open blooms.
The grass will be growing strongly as the weather warms up. Cut the lawn once a week, as most mowers struggle to cut grass if it gets too long. Tip - if you don't have time to mow then cut the lawn edges - your lawn will look instantly smarter!
Regularly control weeds.
Paths, drives and patios can be kept weed-free by spraying with a path weedkiller. Many of these prevent weeds returning for several months after they are applied.
Cut evergreen hedges. Check for nesting birds before trimming!
